Microscopophobia
"Microscopophobia" is a term used by Dr. Bernstein to reflect a physicians' fear of using the dissecting stereo-microscopic. It also refers to the general resistance of the hair transplant community to embrace new technology. At NHI we are committed to adapting all technology and innovations that will improve the hair transplant procedure, regardless of any initial inconvenience or cost. At NHI we perform 100% microscopic dissection for all of our hair transplants and we perform follicular unit transplantation exclusively. NHI has extensively trained its entire staff in techniques that minimize waste of valuable donor hair, but this requires high discipline and tight control processes to ensure the highest quality.
The microscope offers:
- Over 20% more yield from a given donor strip.
- Best graft growth and survival.
- Fullest and most natural possible look.
- Preservation of the donor supply for future use.
Many physicians still seem to have a "phobia" using new technology, such as the dissecting microscope, in spite it's proven benefits. The main arguments that doctors use are, that it is too difficult for their staff to learn, it takes too much time, or it is too costly. These do not seem to be a very good arguments when the quality of the patient's surgery is at stake. As with most good things in life, it does not come without effort. Fortunately, the microscope is such a powerful tool, benefits can be seen almost immediately, even though it may take a surgical team a year or more, to reach the highest level of competence. We suggest that any patient seeking hair restoration "demand" that his/her surgeon use microscopic dissection. Why should anyone settle for anything less than the best possible results?
