Jae Pak, M.D.

jae_pak_md_4_5Dr. Jae Pak graduated from the University of California Irvine with a Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering. He then took a brief detour with the U.S. Marine Corp Officer Candidate School in Quantico Virginia to pursue his love for aviation. He currently holds an FAA private pilot license and you may see him off the coast of Southern California looping and spinning in an aerobatic plane. As an engineer, he designed fiber optic illuminators, and lighting systems that are used all over the world. Some of his (engineering) designs can be seen on the skyline of Las Vegas and stealth ships operated by the U.S. Navy. If you have a pool in your backyard that is equipped with a fiber optic lighting system, chances are Dr. Pak designed that very lighting system. Eventually Dr. Pak went on to complete his medical training at the Medical College of Virginia. He is also a Board Certified Emergency Medicine Physician and works 2 to 3 times a month at a trauma center in Downtown Los Angeles.

His interest in medicine crossed paths with Dr. William Rassman’s interest in engineering in 1997. Since then, the two have been pioneering hair transplant methods, automation, and instrumentation from the initial FUE techniques and tools to Hair Implanting Pen devices which are routinely used at NHI. He holds several U.S. Patents and has been intimately involved with innovative hair transplant surgical techniques incorporating new technology. Dr. Pak engineering work on U.S. Patent US6572625 in the late 1990’s with Dr. Rassman became the genesis of the Artas system for robotic hair transplant surgery.

Dr. Pak’s training in hair transplant surgery stems from the apprenticeship with Dr. Rassman since 1997 perfecting the art of hair transplantation. Dr. Pak brings his engineering and artistic skills to the clinical practice at New Hair Institute. Dr. Pak continues to develop new surgical techniques and invent surgical instrumentation to further advance the field of hair transplant surgery.

Equipped with the technical and surgical skills, Dr. Pak’s most important and distinguishing skill is his inherent artistic abilities to create the most natural and balanced hair line. After all, in cosmetic surgery, you would want your surgeon to be an artist! Some of his art work and design work can be seen here.

Dr. Pak coauthors the daily hair loss Q&A site BaldingBlog.com, and is also a coauthor of ‘Hair Loss and Replacement for Dummies’.
