SMP for Women

Poor hair growth and a see-through scalp can be embarrassing for women. A hair transplant may be difficult or impossible with thinning hair.

Scalp MicroPigmentation is a medically-refined hair tattoo that hides the appearance of thinning hair. SMP is a great alternative for women who are not good candidates for hair transplant surgery, but who want the look of a fuller head of hair.

Scalp MicroPigmentation is a medically refined “tattoo” that mimics the very short hairs of a closely shaved scalp.  This procedure is used to camouflage the appearance of a woman’s thinning hair.  SMP is an alternative for women who are not good candidates for hair transplant surgery but who want the look of a fuller head of hair.
SMP is an innovative non-surgical procedure that is different than a traditional tattoo.  We use extremely fine medical-grade needles to apply the ink to the skin.  The ink is specially formulated by our doctors and is guaranteed to last a lifetime.  During your SMP consultation, the doctor will decide on the ink color to ensure it matches your hair, ethnic background and your age.

The best part of SMP is the speed of seeing results.  Because there is no hair to regrow, patients often see a difference in their appearance after only one session.

This patient was getting married and wanted her hair to look thicker for her upcoming wedding. She was very concerned about not looking her best and wore her hair up in a bun-style to cover her thinning scalp. This bride-to-be just could not imagine having her hair up in all of her wedding photos, so she came to us to have a Scalp MicroPigmentation treatment.  The photos say it all. The results of the SMP procedure and the positive effects it had on her appearance gave her the confidence to have the hairstyle she wanted for her wedding day!

I am a woman with thinning hair. Can SMP help me appear to have thicker hair?

Yes, we have performed SMP on women, but we are cautious when it comes to women because we want to know the cause of the hair loss or hair thinning. With men, 99% have hair loss or hair thinning from genetic causes in a typical balding pattern (MPB), but women may have balding due to many medical conditions and we would want to diagnose them prior to offering SMP. As ethical physicians, we want to be sure that we do not perform this process on women who have potentially reversible baldness from hormonal causes, thyroid, or autoimmune diseases.

Can you make a soft natural hairline?

NHI physicians are experts at creating natural looking hairlines. Most clients want a soft and natural fading frontal hairline, while others prefer a more distinct and linear look. We advise and work with our clients individually to obtain the look they want.

Does it look real?

Yes. Although there is nothing in this world that is “perfect”, with the artistry and technique we use, you cannot tell that that someone has had SMP even up close. SMP gives you the look of a permanent 5 o’clock shadow. SMP blends in with the genetically resistant-to-balding hair around the sides of your head. While photos on our site are great examples, you really need to see SMP in real life to be convinced. It is truly amazing and most of our clients do not mind sharing their experience or letting you examine their results in person. We usually have at least one client who has had SMP done at our scheduled monthly Open House events
